The Eating Continues

Every Monday, the entire technical communications group goes out for lunch somewhere around Zhang Jiang area. Usually, the group eats at Taipei Kitchen or the Sichuan place near SMIC Private School. I used to live near the school and eat at these two places all the time so I’m trying to push for a change to our weekly Monday lunch outing. I took them to the Dong Bei Restaurant in Zhang Jiang Town this past Monday. This is one of my favorite (and cheap) places to eat in the neighborhood. I had the honor of ordering the food and without hesitation, ordered more than enough that we stuffed ourselves silly and took home a few boxes of leftover. It wasn’t too long before food coma settled in and the entire department was very, very quiet in the afternoon.

Tuesday night, the technical writers group had a team dinner. The special occasion was to welcome a visiting tech writer from Austin who will be joining us in January. We went to Xiao Nan Guo at Super Brand Mall and afterwards, had dessert at Hui Lau Shan near the Pudong side of the Bund. “Highlight” of the meal was roasted pigeon and corn juice.

Last night (Thursday), several expats in the company went to a Japanese all-you-can-eat buffet place in Puxi. Some of the expats are here visiting for a few days while some are here on a short-term contract. There are only two of us, another tech writer and myself, that are locally hired expats. They call us the “half-pats.” We don’t have the benefit of expensing random “expenses,” but it is still nice to hang out with them and sponge off their benefits. :P This is how NI takes care of its employees.

Today, a few of us ordered Papa John’s Pizza for lunch. Right after lunch, we had a deck party for the entire company, my first one since joining NI. All of us went to the rooftop of our building and socialized over snacks and drinks. Someone sure had a blast shopping for all the food! I brought a bunch of stuff back to my cubicle. The eating continues…

NI is such a great place to eat work!
