Windows Remote Desktop is one of the coolest tool I’ve discovered since I started working at NI. With remote desktop, I can use any computer in the network to connect to my desktop (or anyone’s desktop) and work from there. This works extremely well because I prefer using my own workspace configurations (reason for this series of posts!) whenever I am working on any computer at the company. Whether I’m in a meeting room, a training room, or working in the developer’s section, I can connect to my workstation via remote desktop. I can keep my workspace configurations as if I was using the actual computer. At home, I can work from a home PC via VPN and remote desktop as if I was using my computer at work.

This is one of the reasons why laptops and wireless networking are not on my list of productive workspace configurations. Remote desktop makes it so much easier to work from anywhere and wherever there’s network connection.
