I started working on a new 1.0 documentation set recently and had to create a few CHMs from template. As part of the process of writing a documentation plan, I need to identify content and topics to include in this 1.0 doc set. I could have just used Microsoft Word or notepad to list out the topics as a list or an outline. However, I’m a very visual person and want to see the outline as it would look on the content tab of the CHM. Thus, I created all the HTML pages so I could compile the entire help file into one CHM.

As an added bonus, I used Lorem Ipsum as text fillers for all the topics so that at a glance, the documentation looks complete and impressive for having started the documentation only last week!

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry.

You can go to the Lorem Ipsum website to generate dummy text sentences, paragraphs, and lists. The reason for using Lorem Ipsum dummy text in documentation or any other location is to highlight the template or layout rather than the text itself.

In my case, I wanted to create the template for my CHM, highlighting the topics in the table of content. I didn’t want each topic to be blank, so I copied a bunch of Lorem Ipsum dummy text. It was better than typing text text text text text repeatedly or made-up text like this is the sample text for this topic and it’s not supposed to make sense but you want to read it anyway because your eyes naturally want to read something you can read.
