Setup Your Own Technical Writing Blog For Free

Alan Johnson over at BloggingBost.com is offering anyone who wants to become a blogger setup a blog for free, domain and hosting included! That’s quite a generous offer, saving an individual close to $100 USD/year in domain and hosting cost. The only condition is that the person submits 5 articles related to being a webmaster to him every week. 10 articles is what’s needed to apply for this offer.

So I’m thinking, wow, 5 articles seems a lot, especially for someone who has a full-time job! I’m barely writing 5 articles a week for this blog, let alone maintain a lively blog AND submit 5 articles to another blog. But I guess maybe the offer is meant for people who want to become full-time bloggers who have all day to write. Ironically, if people want to make a living off of blogging, shouldn’t they be generating a buttload of income already to make it worthwhile? I mean, with the cost of living today, gas prices soaring above $4/gallon and food inflation, who can afford a full-time blogging job unless they already have the revenue needed to sustain themselves? Come to think of it, $100 USD is actually a small amount to invest for your own blogging “business.”

In any case, I’m going to do the same thing here at Shanghai Tech Writer. I’m going to offer any technical writer a FREE blog, domain and hosting included. You only need to submit ONE article* to me each week. This is my contribution to the technical writing blogosphere. So here it is . . .

Free Technical Writing Blog

How does it work?

  • I will register the domain name of your choice, given that it’s still available. You can find out at http://www.checkdomain.com.
  • I will host your blog on my BlueHost server.
  • I will setup a WordPress blog for you, including a few themes and plugins to get you started.

What will your contribution be?

  • Write ONE article* (400-600 words) for me every week about technical writing. I will post it as a guest post here at Shanghai Tech Writer.
  • Include one BlueHost banner for me on your blog, either on the sidebar, header, or footer. Your choice.
  • Your blog will be about technical writing or related topics.

How do I get started?

  • Send me an email request at admin ( at ) shanghaitechwriter (dot) com.
  • Include the name of the domain you’d like to use.
  • Include your job title and the name of the company you work for.
  • Include two articles (400-600 words) about technical writing or related topics.

*The articles you send to me must be of original content and proofread for spelling and grammar errors.

I like the opportunity your giving…hopefully someone of skill will take you up on it.

I’ve been doing “free” lance tech writing. But, I am not as skilled or versed as you are.

Hopefully, your site and thoughts will take off. (They probably do…)

Anyways, I added you to the blogroll.
