| Design | From first glance, this template looks very simple and displays only thumbnail-sized images. However, when you hover the mouse over each thumbnail, you see each caption. When you click a thumbnail, you see that image in near fullscreen mode. Then, when you click the image again, you go back to the thumbnail view, but with a dimmed background of the image you just viewed. Very nice design. | 8 |
| Loading speed | The loading speed is pretty fast, one thumbnail at a time. You can view any preloaded image in fullscreen without having wait for all the images to load. Nice. | 10 |
| Number of clicks | One click to view each thumbnail in fullscreen mode and another click to go back to thumbnail view. For some reason, the beauty of seeing the images in fullscreen mode makes the double-clicking not cumbersome at all. | 7 |
| Browsing efficiency | The default view can easily display at least 40-50 thumbnails, so it’s quite easy to glance oven all the images and click the ones you want to see in fullscreen. The caption that displays as you hover over each thumbnail gives you an idea what each image is. | 9 |
| Image size | The thumbnail size is just big enough to “describe” each image. The spacing of the thumbnail is good and and you can easily fit 40-50 thumbnails in the window. The full-size view covers the entire browser, minus the navigation bar. Beautiful! Unfortunately, portrait images are displayed as landscape. Template not portrait-size friendly. | 8 |
| Caption | Caption appears as you over each thumbnail, but does not appear in fullscreen mode. The text size is tiny and without any kind of formatting/style, but it serves it’s purpose. You know what the picture is about before you click it. | 6 |
| Customizable | From the templates files, you can customize the background color and the size of the full-size view. Number of thumbnails in a row is automatically adjusted depending on window size. Captions and size of thumbnails do not look like they can be customized. | 6 |
| Embed in blogs | This template embeds very nicely in a blog post. What’s really cool about this template is that it automatically adjusts the number of images in a row that will fit nicely with your window size. If your window size is small, it might display only 3-4 thumbnails in a row. If your window size is wide, it might display 10 thumbnails in a row. Excellent! Full-size view in an embedded post depends on the height you set in the embed tag. | 9 |
| Browser-friendly | You must install Adobe Flash Player in order to view this template. This template works well in Firefox but seems to be inconsistent with IE. In IE, the thumbnails occasionally appear in one column instead of several rows. | 8 |
| Downloadable images | You cannot download the images from the thumbnail or full-size view. | – |
Overall |
Overall, Cool FullScreen is a great template! It’s fast to load, easy to scan and navigate through the images, and best of all, the near fullscreen view is just pleasing to the eyes. |
