Google Analytics provides extensive reports and stats about your website such as visitors, page views, bounce rate, top keyword search, referrals, popular contents, etc… I started using Google Analytics several weeks ago to track web stats for Shanghai Tech Writer. Thought I’d start sharing a few interesting stats about this blog.

Thoughts About Stats from This Month:
- Bounce rate of 25% means that 25% of all visitors find this blog irrelevant to whatever they were searching for and leave. The lower the bounce rate, the better/more relevant your blog is. 25% is actually a really good number because that means the majority of visitors (many first-time visitors) find this blog relevant / interesting. My personal blog and food blog on the other hand have bounce rates around 65-70%!!!
- Based on the top 10 keyword search, it looks like people are interested in reading about technical writing and photo templates.
- Thanks to a few good referrals that brought visitors interested in what I have to blog about.
- Unfortunately, people have an average attention span of 3 minutes 13 seconds before they move on to something else.
- Shanghai has the most visitors of all cities. Um . . . I think that was me.

3 minutes - hey, it’s hard with ADD…Now what was I going to say?
I need to do Google analytics - but I get bogged down in long writing posts.
fwiw you can configure analytics so that it excludes your own ip address. pretty useful if you visit your own site to check/test etc.
