SimpleScripts is a script installer that installs various software packages like WordPress, Drupal, and phpBB to your website with a simple click. Bluehost web hosting provides SimpleScripts installer in the cPanel. Installing WordPress using SimpleScripts takes about one minute compared to the normal 5 minutes installation (without SimpleScripts). Shanghai Tech Writer as well as all my other blogs are hosted on Bluehost and were installed using SimpleScripts. I’ve never tried installing WordPress the “normal” way so I’m not sure if it’s really as easy as the documentation claims. In any case, I highly recommend using Bluehost web hosting and SimpleScripts to setup your own blog.
Installing WordPress
Follow the instructions below to install WordPress using SimpleScripts.
- From cPanel, click the Simple Scripts icon to go into Simple Scripts installer page.
- Click the WordPress link to go into the WordPress installer page.
- Click the Install Now button.
- Select a version of WordPress to install. (The latest version of WordPress as of this post is 2.6.)
- Select a location to install WordPress. (Note: You should install your blog in the root folder of your domain unless the main function of your website serves a different purpose other than blogging.)
- Enter a name and a tagline for your blog. You can have SimpleScripts generate a login and create a new database for you automatically (recommended) or you can set that up manually.
- Your blog is completely setup! Click to view your site!
- Click the Log in link and enter your username/password to go to the WordPress dashboard.
- Start blogging!
Web hosting
If you don’t have web hosting yet, I highly recommend BlueHost! BlueHost provides excellent and affordable web hosting package.
