DailyWritingTips started posting a new English test every month. So far, they have three tests, each with 20 questions, that test your English language skills. Check them out!
I didn’t do too well—90%, 85%, and *GASP* 55%! I knew I was going to do rather poorly on the grammar test since grammar is not my forte. My native-English speaking colleagues scored much better on these tests, putting me to shame.
So the question is, am I even in the right profession? I’m a technical writer, so isn’t it part of the job requirement to have excellent English language skills and perfect knowledge of grammar? Um, no.
Some of my readers might think otherwise, but I believe that being a good technical writer requires many different sets of skills. Strong English / writing skills is only one of them.
More about technical writing skill sets in a different post. Stay tuned!

A great site for ESL students is AIDtoCHILDREN.com.
AIDtoCHILDREN.com is a dual-purpose site for building an English
vocabulary and raising money for under privileged children in the most
impoverished places around the world.
