The Business Insider came out with a chart showing the differences in Internet activities between China and the United States. China has about 300 million Internet users, surpassing the United States as the most number of Internet users in the world.

Internet Activities in US and China

Comments About the Chart

  1. The majority of Chinese Internet users use the Internet for entertainment like online gaming, music, videos, blogging, and instant messaging.
  2. American Internet users use the Internet for more consumer-related online activities like banking, travel reservation, online shopping, job search, E-Commerce.
  3. More than 50% of Chinese Internet users have blogs!!
  4. The online education category has the least number of Internet users for most country. Are we saying that we don’t use the Internet for learning /educational purposes? :)

It’s interesting to note that the majority of Chinese Internet users use broadband Internet access and have never used dial-up Internet access before. Over the last two decades, China made leaps and bounds into the digital age, skipping over unheard of technologies like dial-up Internet access, VCRs (what’s that?), cassette tapes, and telephones. From the beginning, it was high-speed Internet, CDs, DVDs, and mobile phones!
