2009What’s Next for Shanghai Tech Writer?

Well, as mentioned in a previous post, I will be resigning from National Instruments in a few weeks. There’s no easy way for me to explain my resignation. Working at NI the past two years has been an INCREDIBLE experience. If you’ve been following this blog, you’d know that NI is a great company and I love my job as a technical writer. I would not leave if it weren’t for the following two reasons. 1) For personal and family reasons, I will be returning to the U.S. for a few weeks. 2) I got an offer to work for my dream job/company.
The timing and everything just happened to work out PERFECTLY so that I’m able to work in the U.S. and out of different offices where my family is. I’ll be back in Shanghai eventually (project is moving to Shanghai!) and will continue to blog here, but the logo (or the lack of one) is going to become …

The nice thing is that when I tell people what company I’m going to work for, they won’t be asking if we make calculators, semiconductors, or musical instruments.
(In case you didn’t get the joke, National Instruments is NOT Texas Instruments or National Semiconductor.)

Waaauw, congratulations Susan. I’m guessing that Shanghai Tech Writer will come out top in the search engine rankings from now onwards.
Did your new employer recruit you or did you respond to a opening? Thanks and congrats!
May I ask where you are going?
And what are you going to do with this Web site?
I guess the logo wasn’t obvious enough. I’ll be at Google doing what I enjoy doing, which of course, is technical writing. I’ll continue to blog here.
Sorry I overlooked that.
Congratulations!
Working at Google must be fun. Are there any more openings for technical writers in Google?
The reason I’m asking this question is that I have never seen ads for technical writers in Google. I checked their Web site, and found some openings in the United States. US citizenship is not required, at least it doesn’t say so, therefore, I might give it a try.
Susan,
Congrat on the job. Google is a great company to work for.
I just left SH to move to Beijing doing some freelance tech docs here.
Will keep an eye of this site. I hope you dont drop it. Some good tips
Re Google Jobs.
There’s a ton of them listed here on the Ireland site, which is the euro hq

Finally, I’m planning to get Netopia (is that the name) to get past the China firewall.
Is this the one you recommended a while back.
Thanks
Ivan
Thanks, Ivan Walsh.
What Web sites that you want to visit are blocked by the Firewall?
Congratulations! Guess a name change is in order for the blog, eh?
It’s about time they picked you up!!!
Remember back in the day… when i couldn’t figure out how to email, and you’d come type in a semicolon, or was it a comma? and then it would work? i was so puzzled! haa. i miss having you around!
Congrats, Susan. You will be the first tech writer I know at Google. (I realize I’m a little late in my response to this post.) I’m excited for you.
